Thanks to your great ideas, Copy2Contact for Google Apps 2.0 is almost here!

We’ve got a beta release ready for just a few select testers (sorry, not publicly available right now), so please leave a comment here if you’d like to participate. Details on the new features are below.

Duplicate Checking and Updating Is Here! (this feature is included in the beta)

Ever want to add contact details from someone’s signature using Copy2Contact, but already have their email address in your contacts? Copy2Contact would normally create a duplicate contact in that case, but not any more! Now you can update existing contacts with Duplicate Checking (in beta now).

Multiple Contact Groups (this feature is included in the beta)

Copy2Contact now includes the ability to add a new contact to more than one group at one time. No more going back to update contact groups after saving.

User Preferences (this feature is included in the beta)

• Default address, email, and phone types – Now you can tell Copy2Contact to make untagged phone numbers go to “Work” instead of “Home”.
• User interface settings – Configure how the enter key works, whether to view an event after saving, and clearing the paste box.
• Capitalization settings – Choose how Copy2Contact capitalizes scanned data
• Phone/email formatting – Choose how Copy2Contact formats phone numbers and email addresses

Other Requested Features: (not included in the beta release)

Auto-detection of contacts and appointments in emails – This feature is planned when Google Contextual Gadgets allow automatic scanning of the entire email body. Hopefully Google will release this feature soon!

Add a global shortcut key like the Copy2Contact desktop program – Unfortunately, due to limitations in the security model of modern web browsers, this is not possible. You’ll have to copy and paste contact info. We are considering an integration with the desktop app or even a browser extension that would add this functionality.

Grab email address from message if not in signature – The Copy2Contact desktop program does this with Outlook and it’s a great feature. We’re planning to add this to the future Google Contextual Gadget.

Sorry, we don’t have holiday offers on Copy2Contact for BlackBerry or iPhone.

But until recently, there’s been no copy and paste capability from within most applications, including email. Unbelievable for a modern smartphone!

Well the recent versions of the Android OS have made copy and paste more accessible, and that means we’ve started working on Copy2Contact for Android.

All the proof-of-concept work has been done and we’ll be releasing a beta version soon. We’re hoping to sign up a few beta testers who are interested in giving feedback in exchange for a first look at how it works.

Add Copy2Contact to contact and calendar forms to simplify data entry. Copy2Contact allows the user to paste all freeform info into one field, rather than tediously copy-and-pasting field-by-field. Copy2Contact will fill out the form automatically, and simplified data entry means decreased bounce rates, improved data accuracy, and fewer errors.

Well the big news is that we’ve re-branded Anagram as Copy2Contact. Same great software, same features, different name. I think this change will be a great starting point for many more enhancements to come.

The other big news is that Copy2Contact for BlackBerry has finally been taken out of beta and released as version 1.0. So far response has been great. You can get more info and install a free 14-day trial here: copy2contact.com/bb

Keep a look out for more upcoming news as we work through the mountains of stuff that piled up during the re-launch.

Fortunately, tons of other BlackBerry software vendors are having the same problem and came to our rescue. The solution is simply to turn off Compatibility Mode for Anagram. Go to Options (the wrench icon) >> Advanced Options >> Applications and find Anagram in the list. Click the menu button on it and choose “Disable compatibility mode“.

And voilà! Anagram works as it should on the Storm.

Some investigating has revealed that this issue occurs on some BlackBerry models and not others. For now it looks like all models running OS 4.5 are affected, while others are not. If anyone sees this issue on another OS level, please post a comment.

We’re hoping RIM engineers will help us investigate why this is happening during the upcoming week. More will be posted soon!

UPDATE: RIM engineers have confirmed this to be  a bug in some BlackBerry OS 4.5 and 4.6 releases. They suggested a work-around that we were able to implement and it seems to work well! Download Anagram 0.9.7 here: http://www.getanagram.com/blackberry/
